Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA offers top prizes, fantastic fare and plenty of entertainment for all ages

2018 sees the return of the much-loved ‘Wear Red Day’ and ‘Ladies Day’

Abu Dhabi, UAE (14 January, 2018) – An action-packed schedule of competitions, activities, fashion and food awaits those who attend the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA on 18-21 January, as the Championship Village prepares to welcome spectators to enjoy a variety of off-course action.

After a successful redesign of the Village layout in 2017, the 2018 edition is set to impress once again, as interactive zones such as the Golf Zone, Kids Zone and Chill Zone, cater to the entire family and are crammed with fun. This year’s village and the fantastic facilities are bigger and better than ever before to entertain the entire family.

If your youngsters are looking to get into the game of golf, they’ll be able to do so in an enjoyable and safe way thanks to the HSBC Golf Zone and the team from Future Falcons. And those who’ve played before will be able to tune their swing on the digital driving range and in the HSBC Hour – a daily one-hour clinic that’s absolutely free. This will be available throughout the Championship, Thursday to Sunday.

Visitors will also be able to experience the global sports entertainment phenomenon, Topgolf Crush, a game that anyone can play. Players score points by hitting micro-chipped golf balls at giant dartboard-like targets on an outfield. The closer you get your ball to the centre or ‘bullseye’, and the further the distance, the more points earned. This is Topgolf’s first time in the UAE, so an unmissable opportunity – participants do not need past experience to play and the game will be available Thursday through to Sunday, free of charge.

Many returning spectators will know that the Championship is about more than just golf, with dedicated rugby and tennis zones. Guests can take part in special workshops for each sport, which will be led by HSBC Ambassadors – who also happen to be sporting icons – including English cricket legend, Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff and Tennis ace, Tim Henman. And if children need to burn off some extra energy, they can experience the HSBC Kids Zone which is home to a jungle gym, soft play area, arts and crafts centre plus much more.

While the kids play, parents and those looking for a more relaxed afternoon can enjoy the sanctuary of the HSBC Chill Zone, filled with comfy seating and laidback music: the perfect place to enjoy some of the fantastic food and drink on offer. A variety of food trucks serve fantastic foods from around the world, plus barbecue stations and more. There will also be plenty of live entertainment and music throughout the week, with lots to tap your toes to. There are four exciting acts lined up for music lovers, each with their own distinctive style.

The first in this eclectic mix are Ember, a new age trio who combine a unique blend of classical production elements with contemporary pop interpretations. Next are High On Heels, a collective of female artists who range from worldwide DJs to jazz-loving saxophonists, ensuring each performance is totally unique. And for those wanting to dance like no one’s watching, look no further than Atlantic Soul Orchestra; having recorded and played with the likes of both Amy Winehouse and Sir Elton John, this act guarantees sensational hits from soul music’s golden period.

Championship-goers will also enjoy the heritage village filled with interesting displays of local culture – keep an eye out for the camel – and you can also get active thanks to Abu Dhabi Sports Council, with Abu Dhabi Tour, Asian Cup and Triathlon activations.

Friday 19 January will once again host Ladies Day – a highly contested competition for women to flaunt their inner fashionista and be named Best Dressed by the Emirates Woman magazine judging panel. The lucky lady will walk away with two Business Class tickets to Milan plus two passes to Milan Fashion Week. The following day – Wear Red Day – gives fans free entry by simply wearing red clothing; there’s also some great prizes up for grabs too, including the chance to win a car from Mercedes-Benz.

Peter German, the Championship’s Tournament Director said: “Every year we plan to improve the Championship not only with even better players but also with more innovative attractions to encourage fans and their families to come and enjoy the fantastic facilities,” said German.

“The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA is not just a great golf tournament but a day out for the whole family.”

The 2018 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA will run from January 18 – January 21. Tickets and tailored packages are available from AED 50 for a daily pass and AED 150 for a four-day pass.
